Describe some possible effects of large scale mutations.

With large-scale types of mutations, large sections of chromosomes are changed, or sections of a chromosome may be duplicated. This may result in extra copies of a gene that may “amplify” the effects of that gene. Conversely, large sections of a chromosome may be deleted, resulting in the loss of entire genes.

Effects of large-scale mutations are more obvious than small-scale mutations. For instance, duplication of genes in large-scale mutations would lead these genes to be overexpressed. Likewise, deletions in genes result to incompletion. In this kind of mutation, “fusion protein” may be created by two combined genes and gives significant cell growth. This can lead to complications like cancer.
