Friar Lawrence views the situation as seriously as Juliet does because he concocted a plan that will help Romeo and Juliet be together despite their families' disapproval.
Friar Lawrence was the one who gave Juliet the potion that will make her sleep and would make her appear dead to the people viewing her. He did this to stop Juliet from making her threat of committing suicide into a reality. He also wanted to end the feud between the Capulets and Montague and he hoped that the union of Romeo and Juliet will bring about the unity and peace between the families.
