I read the poem and I think that the father wanted his daughter's mate to be patient and steady in dealing with his daughter because the daughter is still very young.
This poem was written by Joanna Baillie in 1836. It is written with meter and rhyme and the use of local dialect is used to make the poem more effective.
In this poem, it shows the scene before the wedding happens where the parents of the bride do the talking and the bride simply smiles and appear docile and sweet.
