He was a protector. This is the correct option.
Ralph, in the passage, is just making a comment about Piggy. Ralph does not mean to hurt Piggy at all. Ralph is the character who represents the healthy aspect of civilization: protecting and taking care of the weakest. Piggy is physically vulnerable in the story; he is fat ; he wears glasses and has asthma. However, he is very intelligent. Piggy helps Ralph to think about solutions and he is also very loyal to him. In the exerpt, Piggy does not take Ralph's comment, "Sucks to your assmar!" , seriously. He is patient with his friend, Ralph.
These options are not right:
-He was used to being a leader ( Ralph was not a leader; he was forced to become one. )
-He was used to being made fun of. ( Piggy was made fun of by the other boys on the island)
-He would teach Piggy to swim. ( Ralph would protect Piggy but his intentions were not to teach him anything; this would make him waste energy. He was interested in more important issues).
