Explanation:

Let the number of people that cut thhe paper = n

let A(n) the area in inches left after the paper has been cut

The total area of the piece of paper is 80 inches

When n = 1. This means that the first person will cut 1/4 pieces of the paper

A(n) = 80 - 1/4(80)

A(n) = 80 - 20

A(n) = 60 inches

Hence, the area of the paper remaining is 60 inches

when n = 2

A(n)= 60 - 1/4(60)

A(n) = 60 - 15

A(n) = 45 inches

Hence, the area of the paper remaining is 45 inches

when n = 3

A(n) = 45 - 1/4(45)

A(n) = 45 - 11.25

A(n) = 33.75 inches
