The graph shown here displays the distance, in miles, traveled by an airplane in a certain number of hours. Based on the graph, which of the following equations indicates the correct variables, and in how many hours does the airplane travel 8,000 miles if it travels at the same speed?

Graph titled Motion of an Airplane shows Time in hours on x axis and Distance in miles on y axis. A straight line joins the ordered pairs 0, 0 and 2, 400 and 4, 800 and 6, 1200.

x = 200y, the airplane travels 8,000 miles in 42 hours

y = 200x, the airplane travels 8,000 miles in 42 hours

x = 200y, the airplane travels 8,000 miles in 40 hours

y = 200x, the airplane travels 8,000 miles in 40 hours

Answer:

y=200x

Explanation:

Given is a graph showing the distance, in miles, traveled by an airplane in a certain number of hours.

The variables are distance in miles, time in hours.

We know that distance /time =speed

When constant speed is maintained the rate of change of distance to time is constant i.e. slope = constant

Hence equation would be

distance = time in hours multiplied by constant speed per hour.

x axis is time and y axis is distance

Distance y = 200x and this satisfies when x=40 y = 8000 miles.
