Plessy v. Fergusson was a Supreme Court case that upheld the constitutionality of Racial segregation. At the conclusion of the ongoing trial, the Supreme Court deemed that even though African Americans and white people were separated, they still received equal treatment. This reasoning is also known as the "separate but equal" doctrine. In all reality, this was not true and African Americans were treated on a much lower level than white people. Aside from this issue, this case also made African Americans feel that they could not interact with people "above" them. This instilled feelings of humiliation, suppression, and inferiority.
