When drawing a Venn diagram, how do mutually exclusive events look different from events that are not mutually exclusive?

Answer:

Mutually exclusive events are those that cannot happen together at the same time. In a Venn diagram, mutually exclusive events are shown by separate circles. This is different from not mutually exclusive events because unlike mutually exclusive, not mutually exclusive events have parts of the circles overlapping another circle. Mutually exclusive events are events that can not happen at the same time. Examples include: right and left hand turns, even and odd numbers on a die, winning and losing a game, or running and walking. Non-mutually exclusive events are events that can happen at the same time.
