Police power is the states or government's power to regulate or control the behavior and actions of individuals with the purpose of promoting or protecting the health, safety, morals, and general welfare of the public. This power occasionally overrules individuals' rights to privacy when, for example, it enforces Eminent Domain, which it's the government's authority to acquire private property in order to convert it into public use (such as a park, a railway station, a hospital, etc.), however, in order to acquire the property, the government first has to pay just compensation to the landowner.
