In 1608, Samuel de Champlain returned to Canada to establish Quebec , the first successful French settlement in North America.
Samuel de Champlain who was known as "The Father of New France", established the French settlement in Canada and founded what is now Quebec City on July 3, 1608. Since he was a French settler, navigator, cartographer, explorer as well as geographer, he explored and published maps of his journeys as well as his accounts about the French settlers living among the natives. Besides, he made the first accurate map of the coast which helped found the French settlements.
