It's a short story called "the landlady" by roald dahl and there's a question on dialogue that doesn't make a ton of sense

I've read "the landlady" before and its a good short story, Basically it means that she has been waiting for someone day and night by keeping everything the same every second of the day and night. When the young boy came along, she was exited for another costumer for her pleasure of not being alone. that's my way of just seeing it after reading it a lot
