How did grant treat confederate soldiers after the surrender at appomattox court house?

Grant offered generous terms to surrender, after, laying down their arms the Confederates could return home in peace, taking their private possessions and horses with them. Grant also gave food to the hungry Confederate soldiers.

To add, the Battle of Appomattox Court House, fought on the morning of April 9, 1865, was one of the last battles of the American Civil War.
