Welfare programs are reviewed all the time as we are seeing as a result of this election. The problem is they are reviewed by politicians and not experts in the field. Since 1996 when AFDC became TANF, welfare payments have been constantly under scrutiny.  I think sick child day care should be added as a subsidy. We want those on welfare to work but most minimum wage places do not give sick leave and they are often single parents with not much of a support system. We see a lot of single mothers losing their jobs when a child is sick and they can't go to school or daycare and the mother has to stay home from work with them. The job will fire them because they have no leave and the cycle starts again. If the state paid for sick child day care, the mother could continue to work.
