This problem will be solved using a systems of equations.

We have one container that is 10% candy and another that is 25% candy. However, we don't know how many containers of each type there are. We can write:
0.10x+0.25y=3.6 (we are trying to find the amount of cups that would make 20% of the cups. 20% of 18 is 3.6)
x+y=18 (where x and y are the numbers of containers).

We can first substitute y.
x+y=18 becomes y=-x+18
0.10x+0.25(-x+18)=3.6
-0.15x+4.5=3.6
-0.15x= -0.9
x=6

Now we can substitute this into the second equation to find y.
6+y=18
y=12

So 12 cups of the 10% peanuts and 6 cups of the 25% peanuts are needed.

Let x be the cups of trail mix that is 10% candy pieces

Y be the cups of trail mix that is 25% candy pieces.

Since the total is 18 cups

X + y = 18

And the mix is 20% candy

0.10x + 0.25y = 18(0.20)

Solving the equations simultaneously

X = 6 cups

Y = 12 cups
