We have the equation:

A=lw

and we know that A=44 when l=16; plugging this values and solving fir w we have that:

\begin{gathered} 44=16w \\ w=(44)/(16) \\ w=(11)/(4) \\ w=2.75 \end{gathered}

Therefore w=11/4 (this is the same as 2.75)
