Solve x2=17. Use a radical sign in each answer.

take the square root of both sides to get x = sqrt(17) which is really x = -sqrt(17) and x = sqrt(17). Those would be your two answers.

squaer root both sides
remember to take positive and negative roots because (x)²=(-x)²


x²=17
squaer root of both sides
x=+/-√17


x=√17 and x=-√17
