it means to take the details of the poem and understand what they mean on a deeper level. how to do it is you take a line from the poem and simplify what they mean.

Purpose for annotating a poem: To better understand the theme and main point of it.
Steps:
1. Read one stanza
2. Write down what you think that stanza means and/or what you think the poet is talking about
3. Repeat for all stanzas separately
