THe area of a square is calculated as:

A= a*a= a²

a represents one side of the square.

If the area is A=55 inch² its square root will be the length of one side:

a=√(55)=7.42

Rounded to the nearest whole: 7 inches

For the second part you have to take notice of the integers next to √55

Expressed in decimal form √55=7.42 which means that you can find this value between the integers 7 and 8

So: 7<√55<8

Square the values:

7²=49

8²=64

49<55<64

Since 55 is closer to 49 than to 64, √55 is colser to 7
