Well, normally you'd need the get the y alone, such as the x when dealing with variables. So this will turn into a fraction problem.

5y+8

To isolate the y, we need to get it alone by removing the 5. Since 5 is currently multiplying the y, we need to do the opposite: divide.

5y+8
/5 /5

Since 8 does not go into five properly, here's where it becomes a fraction.

y+8/5
