The area of a trapezoid is the height times the average of the base lengths, mathematically:
A=h(b1+b2)/2
In this case h=5, b1=8 and b2=1 so
A=5(8+1)/2
A=5*9/2
A=45/2
A=22.5 m^2

If the bases of a trapezoid are 8 and 1 with a height of 5, the area of the trapezoid would be
22.5 square centimeters
.
