"George wants to sign up for a new mobile phone plan. The mobile phone company offers George two plans. Mobile Green has a monthly instalment of $20 plus an additional charge of 10 cents per minute of talk/text. Mobile Blue has a monthly instalment of $40 with an additional charge of 5 cents per minute of talk/text. At what dollar amount is the cost for the two plans the same for the same amount of minutes?"

Okay so equations are; y=0.10x+20.0 and y=0.05x+40.0........ What do I do to find out the actual answer to the question, "At what dollar amount is the cost for the two plans the same for the same amount of minutes?"

both equal y so set equal to each other
0.10x+20=y=0.05x+40
0.10x+20=0.05x+40
mnus 0.05x both sides
0.05x+20=40
minus 20 from both sides
0.05x=20
divide both sides by 0.05
x=400
at x=400
find the dollar amount
subsitut for x

y=0.10x+20
y=0.10(400)+20
y=40+20
y=60
at $60
