Answer:

Proportion states that two ratios or fractions are equal.

As per the statement:

The local movie theater offers a 15 percent discount to senior citizens. If the regular movie price is $8.00.

Let x be the price for a person who qualifies for the senior discount.

the by definition of proportion, we have;

(85)/(100)=(x)/(8)

By cross multiply we have;

680 = 100x

Divide both sides by 100 we have;

6.80 = x

or

x = $6.80

Therefore, $6.80 is for a person who qualifies for the senior discount.

The answer is $6.80.

The full price: $8.00 (100%)
The discount: 15%
The discounted price: x (100% - 15% = 85%)

Make a proportion.
$8.00 : 100% = x : 85%
x = $8.00 * 85% : 100% = $6.80
