The mean (average) weight of 3 dogs is 38 pounds. One of the dogs, Sparky, weighs 46 pounds. The other two dogs, Eddie and Sandy, have the same weight. Find Eddie's weight.

Explain how you found the answer as well! Thanks!

1st multiply 3 and 38 together to get the total weight of all three dogs.
38 * 3 = 114 - total weight

We know that Sparky is 46 so we will subtract that off to get the combined weight of the other 2 dogs.
114 - 46 = 68

We also know that Eddie and Sandy have the same weight. So to find the weight of each, divide the 68 by 2 to get the weight of each dog
68/2 = 34

So therefore, Eddie weighs 34 pounds.
