The correct answer is (c) A genetic mutation in somatic cells.

Melanoma is the skin cancer caused by the mutation in the somatic cells of the body. It is also known as malignant melanoma, which develops from the pigment containing cells known as melanocytes. The harmful rays of the sun contains UV rays that is responsible for causing mutation in the cells. It occurs basically in the skin but can rarely occur in mouth, intestines and eyes. Some common symptoms are sore that do not heal, redness on skin, change in texture of existing mole.
