Using the Law of Sines (sina/A=sinb/B=sinc/C for any triangle) we can say:

L/sin((180-90)/2)=12/sin90 (sin90=1)

L/sin45=12

L=12sin45 cm

L≈8.49cm (to nearest hundredth of a centimeter)
