Explanation: If a cow gets 10% of the energy from the grass, we only get 10% of that energy from the cow which is .1%

As each order of consumers eat other organisms, energy that transfered decreases. This is due to the fact an organism requires energy to move and stay alive before it's inevitable death/kill, hence why a consumer would require to eat several of the organisms, or attempt to kill another consumer of it's size or bigger.
