Last 1904, the Federal government used the Sherman Antitrust Act stop railroad company called Northern Securities Company. The case with the State of Minnesota v. Northern Securities Company. James Jersey Hill wanted to gain hold of the railroads of Burlington, Chicago and Quincy.

The act prevents monopoly to transpire and protect companies who experiences being cracked through control of others.
