Given:

a.) A book sold 42,300 copies in its first month of release.

b.) This represents 9.1% of the number of copies sold to date.

For us to be able to determine the total number of copies sold to date, we will be using the following formula:

\text{ Total number of copies = }\frac{\text{ Number of copies}}{\text{ \% equivalent of the copies vs. total }/\text{ 100}}

We get,

\text{ Total number of copies = }\frac{\text{ 4}2,300}{\text{ 9.1 }/\text{ 100}}
\text{ = }\frac{\text{ 42,300}}{\text{ 0.091}}
\text{ Total number of copies sold up to date = }464,835.16483516\text{ }\approx\text{ 464,835}

Therefore, approximately 464,835 of books were sold to date.

The answer is 464,835 books
