in order to do this plug in 6 for x. 4(6)+y=20, now multiply and get 24+y=20, now subtract 24 from both sides to get y alone and get y=-4
hope this helps

Sub in 6 for x in the equation and you have:
4(6) + y = 20
24 + y = 20
y = -4
