set h=0 and solve for t

So: 0 = 32t - 16^2

32t−16t2=016t(2−t)=0t=2

Answer:

2 seconds

Explanation:

Given : Heather hits a tennis ball upward with an initial speed of 32 feet per second.

To Find: After how many seconds does the ball hit the ground

Solution:

Formula :
h = rt -16t^2

Where h is the height

r is the initial speed

So, initial speed = r = 32 feet per second

Now we are supposed to find After how many seconds does the ball hit the ground i.e. h =0

Substitute h=0 in the formula

0 = 32t -16t^2

16t^2 = 32t

16t = 32

t = (32)/(16)

t = 2

Thus after 2 seconds the ball will hit the ground.
