The hypotenuse or the ramp is = 8 feet

The ramp is placed on 2 feet high box.

This 2 feet is the other side or the perpendicular of the triangle.

We have to find the base (How far from the box is the bottom edge of Troy's ramp)

Let this be x

So, as per Pythagoras theorem,


x^(2) +2^(2) =8^(2)


x^(2) +4 =64}


x^(2) =60}


x=√(60)

=
√(2*2*3*5)

=
2√(15)

=
2*3.872=7.744 feet

The box is approx 7.74 feet away from the bottom edge of ramp.
