The number of burger sam bought = x

Let the number of burgers for mike be = y

the equation for the total number of burgers will be

x+y=50\ldots\ldots\ldots\ldots\ldots\ldots\ldots\ldots(\text{eqn 1)}

Mike brought 5 more than 2 times as many burgers as sam will be represented as

y=2x+5\ldots\ldots\ldots\ldots\ldots\ldots\ldots..(Eqn\text{ 2)}

By substituting Eqn 2 in Eqn 1 we will have

\begin{gathered} x+y=50 \\ x+2x+5=50 \\ 3x+5=50 \\ 3x=50-5 \\ 3x=45 \\ (3x)/(3)=(45)/(3) \\ x=15 \end{gathered}

Therefore,

The value of x= 15

To calculate the number of burgers mike brought to the BBQ =y,

We will substitute the value of x in (Eqn 1) above

undefined
