(-5) to the second power is 25 cause -5 times -5
-5 to the second power is basically -(5)to the second power so 5 times 5 is 25. And then since the negative was not in the parentheses it's 25 times -1 to get -25

When the negative is included in the parentheses, you end up with a positive product
