Percentages

We are given the final price of a sofa after a discount of 62% was applied.

Assume the original (regular) price of the sofa was 100%.

If it was discounted 62%, then its new price is 100% - 62% = 38%

The discounted price is $144.40. To find the original price, we just divide:

$144.40 / 0.38

Recall that a percent number is expressed in decimal by dividing it by 100, that is why I got 38 / 100 = 0.38

Calculating the division:

$144.40 / 0.38 = $380

The regular price was $380
