What happens to light images once they are in the retina?

The retina interprets the images.

The images are sent to the cornea.

Our eyes blink.

The images are sent to the brain.

I mean the light is made up from some kind of particle, when these hit the retina electrical signals travel through the optic nerve and our brain does the rest.

But what about the light particle that hits the retina? Where does it go? Is it absorbed like with skin?

I imagine we must do something with it since our eyeballs would get clogged up with a load of old light otherwise.
