The rate of this will also be greatly influenced by the size of the organism; small organisms, such as eggs or embryos, can actually fossilize very quickly. Possibly within a few weeks or months.

Petrified trees or dinosaur bones are examples of macrofossils. Once preserved remains have aged 10,000 years or more, they are considered fossils.
