I believe the answer is: A.To replace people who had died

The mourning war serves as some sort of tradition rather than seeking economic or political incentives. The warriors in the mourning war would aimed to scalp the head of the enemy and kill them to avenge the warriors that died on the previous battle. They also captured several of them and gave them to the family of dead warriors so they can relieve their anger.
