Answer:

The surface area = 736 square inches

Explanation:

A box is in the form of a cuboid which has 6 faces of which opposite faces has equal surface area.

a. Since the top surface equals bottom surface, their surface area = 2 (l × w)

But, l = 16 inches, w = 10 inches

= 2 ( 16 × 10)

= 2 × 160

∴ their surface area = 320 square inches

b. The two sides would have equal surface areas, so that their surface areas = 2 (w × h)

But, w = 10 inches, h = 8 inches.

Their surface areas = 2 (10 × 8)

= 2 × 80

= 160 square inches

c. The front and back portions would have equal surface areas, so that their surface areas = 2 (l × h)

But, l = 16 inches , h = 8 inches

Their surface areas = 2 (16 × 8)

= 2 × 128

= 256 square inches

Thus the surface area of the box = 320 + 160 + 256

= 736 square inches
