1) Gathering the data

Denise Cho

$ 17 per hour

Overtime: 1.5 x 17 =25.5

40 hours plus overtime = 5839.38

40 x 17 = 680

2) Let's set our equation, with these data:

680+25.5x = 5839.38

Since we don't know how many overtime hours, let's write x for that. 17 x 1.5 = $25.5 is the overtime value

680+25.5x = 5839.38 Subtract 680 from both sides

25.5x =5839.38-680

25.5x=5159.38 Divide both sides by 25.5

x=202.32

x ≅ 202 overtime hours.
