This comes from the fifth amendment which means no one can be punished unfairly without being seen by a grand jury and being convicted of a crime except in very extreme cases such as a war. "I plead the fifth." Is saying that someone gets a trial by jury case and cannot be deprived of their natural-born rights. Hope that helps you!

The Fifth Amendment says to the federal government that no one shall be "deprived of life, liberty or property without due process of law." The Fourteenth Amendment, ratified in 1868, uses the same eleven words, called the Due Process Clause, to describe a legal obligation of all states.
