Write a poem about something that you value in your life.
2. Brainstorm: You may prewrite or use a graphic organizer to brainstorm ideas about something you hold as valuable.
3. Once you have developed some ideas from your prewriting, begin drafting a poem.
Your poem should:
● Develop your theme (your overall idea) about what you value
● Be written in lines and stanzas (groups of lines)
o Lines do not have to use end punctuation every time
o Stanzas must be clearly separated with spaces between
o Do not number or “bullet” your stanzas
● Have a logical flow
o The reader should be able to follow along easily
● Use descriptive language
o Your words create the mental picture for the reader – be creative!
● Use repetition (repeat words and phrases for effect)
