The most recognized long conflict between the Soviet Union and the United States is the Cold War which occurred in 1945-1991 or 5 decades in total. The conflict relations were caused by great arguments in ideologies and politics therefore it was called a Cold War.

The decades long conflict between the United States and the Soviet Union was referred to as the Cold War.

To add, the Cold War was a state of geopolitical tension after World War II between powers in the Eastern Bloc (the Soviet Union and its satellite states) and powers in the Western Bloc (the United States, its NATO allies and others).
