30 and 12 because add them together and they get 42 and subtract them they are 18.

let b>a
b-a=18
b=18+a and we are told that:
a+b=42, using b from above we have:
a+18+a=42
2a+18=42
2a=24
a=12, since b=18+a
b=30
So the two numbers are 12 and 30.
