First u have to multiply 4 and 17 then subtract 6 from both sides resulting in 68=5x+6
-6 -6
62=5x
Then in your final step u have to divide 5 from both sides to get x. And x equals 12.4

I believe you meant to have...
4x + 17 = 5x + 6...

Move the 4x to the right by subtracting it from both sides which in result you get...
17 = x + 6

Then you want to subtract 6 from the right to the left so you get...
11 = x

OR
If you meant 4 * 17 = 5x + 6 then what you do is multiply the left side which in turn gets...
68 = 5x + 6
Subtract six from the right to the left and you get...
63 = 5x
Divide by 5 then you get..
x = 63/5 or you can also say x = 12.6
