I'm pretty sure that it just means that you can lie to yourself and convince yourself about certain things, and you trick yourself into thinking about it in a different point of view, but your gut feeling will never change.

It means that you can convince your mind of something if you tell yourself/repeat it often enough, but deep down, you'll always know that it's not true.
