The eardrum or the tympanic membrane is the membrane that stretches across the ear canal. This part of the ear is responsible for receiving and vibrating the sounds towards the ossicles (small bones in the ear) that are responsible for transmitting the message to the cochlea of the ear and then towards the auditory nerve.
