How does the structure of DNA influence its function?

Structure and function are intimately linked. The most important feature of the structure of DNA is that it forms an "anti-parallel" structure. This double helix allows the cell to make two new, identical copies, by reading and copying each strand separately. It is how the information is permanently retained.
