2Na+Cl-(l) → 2Na(s)+Cl2(g)
Sodium ions gain electrons (reduction) to form sodium atoms. Chloride ions lose electrons (oxidation) to form chlorine atoms.
The chlorine atoms combine to form molecules of chlorine gas.
