The cell organelle which determines if an organism is an autotroph is a chloroplast. Every organism should contain a chloroplast to be defined as an autotroph because chloroplast contains thylakoid that plays very important biological role - the light reaction takes place there. Also, an autotroph plant contains a mitochondria in order to produce energy.
