The pi chart represents how the total 81 dogs were split up.

1/3 of 81 were Beagles
2/9 of 81 were Labrador Retrievers
1/8 of 81 were Bulldogs
1/3 of 81 were Boxers

We are looking for Labrador Retrievers, so we must find 2/9 of 81, or, in other words,

2/9 x 81

Rewrite it as:

(2)/(9) * (81)/(9)

You can cancel out the 9's in both fractions to make it simpler.

(2)/(9) * (81)/(1) = (2)/(1) * (9)/(1)

18 is the number of Labrador Retrievers.

If you don't understand the crossing out fractions, think of it this way...

(2)/(9) * (81)/(1) = (162)/(9) = 18

Just multiply numerators AND denominators, don't leave denominators the same (this is not adding)

Because 162 divide by 9 is 18

Hope this helps! :)

The chart is how the separate sections of 81 dogs.

For Labrador Retrievers, we need 2/9 of 81.

(2)/(9) * (81)/(1)

Divide 9

(2)/(1) * (9)/(1) = 18

18 is the final answer
